Why choose underfloor heating?
Radiators heat a room by convection — they warm the air right beside them, which rises to the ceiling and pulls cold air in behind it. That's why rooms heated by radiators often feel cold at floor level and stuffy up high, with draughts as the warm and cool air mix.
Underfloor heating works the other way around. Warmth radiates upward from the whole floor, gently heating the cool air that would otherwise sit at ankle height. The result is a steady, even temperature across the whole room, rather than hot and cold zones.

How underfloor heating goes in
In a new build, installation is straightforward: pipework is laid out across a bed of insulation before the floor screed is poured over the top, leaving the finished floor completely unobtrusive — there's nothing to see once it's down. The same principle applies to a well-planned retrofit. Once installed, the system needs very little attention, and if performance ever drops off, a system flush will clear any build-up and restore it.
Connect a heat pump and save further
Underfloor heating and an Orca air-to-water heat pump are a natural match. The heat pump provides a constant, low-cost supply of hot water to circulate through the underfloor pipework, giving you comfortable, year-round floor heating without the running costs of oil or gas.
